This is an idea that was bounced back and forth between Goblin and I.
So what is popular in RoK? What makes a good server? So far I feel as admin's and rule set we have one of the best. However the server seems to be.....lacking in players atm. Even on the weekends not as many new faces as we were once seeing. Which isn't bad thing considering some.
I propose: Server Factions!
Four core players chosen at random every 2-3 weeks when wipes happen. These 4 players are "Barons" of their land. Each is given a section of the map as their domain. Obviously not to close to resource nodes so not to have an advantage over the other. The Barons are then given an ample amount of T7 blocks to build a strong hold. Maybe just cobblestone. Then when a player joins the server they choose a faction. They become a man at arms or knight etc. of this Baron. Obviously there is no ingame mechanic that can do this so it would require the Barons or their underlings to recruit new players as they come on. If they choose not to join any of the 4 Barons they are considered a mercenary and can never claim King. These mercs can be hired to do "dirty" jobs by the Barons and their men against the other factions. If they live on a certain Baron's land they must pay taxes if the Baron wishes it. Or face jail time, beheading, public execution etc. etc.
The 4 Barons can then claim war on each other to fight for the throne. They must do so in the server forums at least 1 to 2 days in advance so the Baron they are challenging has time to gather his forces for the ensuing fight. All fights must happen in flax field. So flax will be still kept clear of building but will serve as a battle ground for the armies. Only 2 Barons can be at war at a time. The winning side (determined by last man standing, no respawning and running back into the fight. You die your out till battle is over) then gets to claim King. The Baron himself can be King or a chosen representative of his guild. Its also open to a 3 Baron system since then each baron could respectively have 10 people on their side. I'm just OCD and like even numbers. This would also give people more of a reason to use the forums other then complaining.
Also the Barons may just wage war on each other. Each Baron would be required to have a court yard protected by perhaps 1 layer of T7. Behind this court yard wall is where they keep their loot. The opposing Baron may only treb through the front gate or front walls. ONce through they must get through the courtyard wall to the treasure. Once they do the war is over and the victor may loot their spoils. Then after the war is over, the Baron is given blocks to fix his keep.
I know this would require some work on the admin's part. But also adds a lot RP elements and could boost the server and server donations to maybe one day increase pop limit . The core rule system of the server however does support this style of gaming, so I think it would work well.
